  • Hike, horseback ride, or bicycle on miles and miles of estate trails. Every turn is a new venue: a fabulous cedar forest with ferns and moss, lovely ridge views across the canyon to Mt. Murphy, and so much more.

  • Welcome to nature: thousands of trees and native plants: cedar, pine, douglas fir, madrone and six varieties of oak. Wildlife abound: deer, fox, raccoon, bobcat, turkey and scores of varieties of flying fowl. A true bird watchers buffet from large red tailed hawks to tiny yellow finches that love to play in the fountain and everything in between.

  • Go down the path behind the old shed to the Wildlife Viewing Sanctuary and sit at the picnic table. If you sit quietly behind the blind, you can see deer, bobcats, ducks, geese, raccoons, even mountain lions!

  • Plant and wildflower lovers will marvel at the huge selection of plants which can be found in the many varied ecosystems throughout the 100 acre estate.

  • Look for the secret garden. You can pick and eat anything ripe while you’re there.

  • Guided trails rides available for experienced riders. Coming soon, carriage rides.

Check out gold rush artifacts such as China Rocks, caved in mine shafts and the ruins of the old stamp mill. Relax beside the barbeque terrace and beach overlooking the estate’s swimming pond. Take a dip or row the boat. Watch the horses, four elegant Missouri Foxtrotters, gallop along white rail fences.

If you have time for a short drive, a fun trip would be a visit to one of the longest covered bridges in the US. Another quick trip for hiking or horseback riding is Cronan Ranch, a thousand acre preserve along the South Fork of the American River in nearby Coloma.

Things Get Better
Jed's Story (Part 3)

"Met Ghost of Walker last night, nice enough fella, likes to spa and steam bath. Says they didn’t’ have these contraptions in his day. Asked if we needed any shoes repaired or made. Funny question until I realized he was a cobbler. Kept us up most of the night fixin’ my shoe on the roof. Woke up to rain and a practically new shoe. Great layover spot, best on the divide! Will ride the ponies down to Coloma to sell the gold later today.

Hope Black Bart isn’t planning a hold up! Hope to stay here on the return trip. Thanks a heep!"
